The KNU/KNLA and joint forces of the revolutionaries completely captured the military council camp in Maw Taung town, Myeik-Dawei district, Tanintharyi Region, on the Thai-Myanmar border, which has been occupied for over (35) years, early today, November 14, and captured 43 Military council members as prisoners of war and seized large quantities of weapons and ammunition.
The KNU/KNLA joint forces launched an offensive on Maw Taung town starting on November 10. Despite heavy air bombardment by the military council, they attacked and captured the last remaining Maw Taung strategic base on November 14, and finally captured Maw Taung town.
The Karen National Liberation Army (K.N.L.A.) Brigade (4) led by the Karen National Defense Force (K.N.D.O.), the Htet Myaew Ward, the People’s Defense Force (P.D.F.), the Burma People’s Liberation Army (B.P.L.A.), the FFD Drone Force and the revolutionary joint forces launched an offensive on November 11 and captured the camp on the 4th day of the battle today. Photo records show that a large amount of weapons and ammunition were captured during the battle to capture the camp.
The weapons and ammunition seized were 2 of 120 mm. guns and 188 rounds of ammunition, 1 machine gun and 2,000 rounds of ammunition, 3 60 mm guns and 420 rounds of ammunition, 108 81 mm guns, 2 RPGs and 124 rounds of ammunition (129 more rounds), 1 carp and 11,914 rounds of ammunition, MA1-5 guns, MA2-5, MA3-6, MA4-2, M16-1 and ammunition, AK47-1, carbine-3, G3-4, Uzi-1, pistol-1 and 209 rounds of ammunition, nine-round rifle-4 and 123 rounds of ammunition. In total, 42 small arms and ammunition, grenades and military equipment were seized from the military council.
he KNU reported that the 43 captured military council soldiers are being held in accordance with the KNLA’s prisoner of war laws. In addition, at least 50 of the military have fled to Thailand, and Thai authorities are currently confiscating weapons from the fleeing Burmese soldiers and granting them asylum, according to border sources.
