The Chin Affairs Coalition (ICA) has revealed that humanitarian aid for the more than 100,000 displaced people in Chin State and the more than 60,000 refugees in India has been limited to 5% of the actual needs due to insufficient funding and extremely high transportation costs.

Currently, 95% of the aid needs for the Chin IDPs remain unmet and unaided. “Even with funding, the transportation costs of goods are almost the same as the value of the goods. In addition, some goods do not arrive on time due to the military situation,” an ICA official explained, explaining the current logistical difficulties.

In the health sector, medicines are also not fully available due to the inability to transport them from the mainland and the high cost of transporting them from Mizoram. In addition, the risk of airstrikes by the military council poses a major challenge in establishing safe medical facilities for the displaced.

The ICA prioritizes areas with severe shortages of shelter and food in their aid distribution. There are long-term plans for education, but limited funding has made it difficult to implement them. “We are in contact with all international and local organizations. However, we avoid organizations that seek political gain under the pretext of humanitarian assistance,” an ICA official told Tongsan Media, confirming their impartial stance.
