The National Unity Government (NUG) and the five ethnic revolutionary groups, namely the Kachin Independent Organization (KIO), Karen National Union (KNU), Karenni (KNPP), and Chin National Fornt (CNF), have held important talks in recent days to successfully wage the revolution and establish a strong leadership mechanism, KIO Vice Chairman Lt. Gen. Gun Maw publicly announced on February 5, 2026.
Lt. Gen. Gun Maw made the remarks while participating in the 65th Kachin Revolution Day ceremony held in Texas, USA, via an online broadcast. He said that the term “Federal Leadership Council” currently popular in the media is still at the stage of being envisioned and not yet a confirmed organization, but that the priority is to negotiate how to wage the revolution successfully.
He also pointed out that the revolutionary forces need to stand united on the right path and respect each other, and that skillful coordination of military and political forces is the key to success. He also urged people to reexamine themselves to effectively use their resources and participate in the revolution.
The five groups participating in the meeting are major organizations within the alliance known as the “K7”. The meeting comes at a time when the public is expecting a stronger “Joint Leadership” in the resistance against the military commission, not only in terms of ground operations but also in international relations and governance.
