Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Ms. Retno L. P. Marsudi said today in Jakarta that the current and future rotating chairpersons of the three countries are continuing to use the informal led approach (Troika) to resolve the crisis in Myanmar. Marsudi made a statement after meeting with Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad bin Hasan.

At the ASEAN summit held in Jakarta in September 2023, the three current and future rotating chairpersons of ASEAN agreed to informally deal with the implementation of common agreements on Myanmar. Retno L. P. Marsudi said that during Indonesia’s tenure as the rotating chairman of ASEAN, he had 265 contacts with relevant organizations related to Myanmar and transferred these records and contacts to the current rotating chairman, Laos.

Retno Marsudi also added that the Indonesian side tried to continue using the diplomatic approach as effectively as possible. Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad bin Hasan spoke about the importance of ASEAN working to prevent Myanmar’s conflict from spreading further into the region.
