Five civilians were killed in three days in Kalay Township, Sagaing Region, by the Military Council’s artillery in the past three days from November 26 to 28, according to local residents. On the morning of November 26, the military council fired artillery on Letpanchaung village in Kalay Township, killing four people, including a 14-year-old child.
The victims were identified as Maung Lal Rap Ei (age 14), Miss. Ni Lalbiakpuii (Age 25), Daw Pi Lawn Neigh Par (Age 54), and U Lal Hmingthanga (Age 65). Similarly, on November 28, a local woman was killed and another was injured when the military council fired artillery in Kim Moon Chong village. The deceased was 40-year-old Daw Zar Zar Htwe, and many houses in the village were also destroyed, said a local resident, who asked not to be named for security reasons.
“There was no fighting. The heavy weapons were being fired at the villages. There were casualties in the villages. One person died in Kim Moon Chong village. A woman was hit in the thigh. The houses were also destroyed.” Locals are said to be worried about the heavy weapons being fired at villages in Kalay township by the Military council. According to a statement by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) on November 29, 2024, the number of people killed nationwide since the military coup has reached 6,000.
