The airstrikes by the Military Council on hospitals constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity, and the Ministry of Health of the National Unity Government (NUG) urges the international community to take all possible measures to prevent them.
At around 11:30 am on November 26, the Military council bombed a public hospital in Lumte village, Falam township, Chin State, killing seven people, including two health workers, and injuring four others, the NUG said on November 29. In addition to the hospital building, nearby houses were also destroyed by fire.
The NUG said that the targeting of hospitals is a flagrant violation of international humanitarian and human rights law, including the Geneva Conventions and UN Security Council resolutions. We express our condolences to the health workers who have sacrificed their lives and to the people who have lost their lives, and we will strive for justice.
In the last week of this month, fighting between the military council and the Chin Revolutionary Forces has intensified in the Falam, Thantlang and Mindat, Chin State. During the military coup, health workers and facilities have been attacked more than 1,100 times, according to a report released on November 15 by the Swiss-based human security research group Insecurity Insight.
