A mentally ill local resident has died in custody of the Chin National Army (CNA) in Tonzang, Chin State. Tang Langh Khan Suan, from Sakollam Ward, Titin Township, was arrested by CNA troops near Tungtuang village on December 9 while on his way to Tuen Mun and died in the morning of December 10, according to PDF – Zoland and CDF – Tonzang troops.
“At Tungtuang gate, when the CNA sentry asked him to stop, he ran away. He was chased and chased. They handed him over to me, the chairman of the Tonzang Township Council. I was not there because the Chin National Council Steering Committee meeting was in Victoria Camp. When I was not there, the CNA put him in jail and questioned him. He did not answer at all. He only said one word. “I went to Maw Pi village and hid in the forest.” Later, they said that this person might be mentally ill, and they did not ask further, but arranged blankets and made him sleep. In the morning, the guard looked and said that he was dead,” said Thang Suan Mung @ Zo Mumung, the commander of the CDF Tonzang Township.
The body of the deceased has been handed over to the family, and the family and relatives have been reconciled with the CNA battalion commander in Tonzang Township in accordance with Chin tradition. In a statement issued on December 11, ZFU/PDF – Zoland said that the arrested Tg. Leng Khan Suan was beaten and interrogated by some CNA soldiers and died on December 10 due to abuse. ZFU/PDF – Zoland demanded that the CNA leaders take responsibility and accountability for the death of a local citizen and that the perpetrators be effectively prosecuted according to the law.
“If they are true, the CNF leaders should take action because their disciples beat him to death. We will not take action. They are also an organization, so they should take action according to the law. It is regrettable that such acts of violence were committed during the revolutionary period. I would like to ask all organizations to be careful not to let this happen again,” said a ZFU spokesperson.
The deceased, Tang Langh Khan Suan, had been living in his native Tedim Township for about two years due to mental health problems in Malaysia. The township is occupied by the Chin Defense Force (CDF) – Tonzang and the Chin National Army (CNA) and are implementing administrative mechanisms.
