The Arakan Army (AA) has captured Lieutenant Colonel Kyaw Kyaw Thet, the acting commander of the 99th Infantry Division, in the battle between Kan Myint Kan and Gok Sih Yo, on the border of Magway Division and Rakhine State, AA sources said.
He was captured with a leg wound in the battle between Gok Sih Yo in early February. The acting commander, Lieutenant Colonel Kyaw Kyaw Thet, is from the 992nd Tactical Group of the 99th Infantry Division. The 360-strong Military council led by Lieutenant Colonel Kyaw Kyaw Thet from the 992nd Tactical Group left Yamethin on January 12 for the Ann-Padan road, and was then ordered by the Military council to guard the road around Kan Myint Kan.
It is reported that on January 13 (8 pm), the AA attacked the border pagoda where the No. 419 military column was located. Then, it was attacked again at Kai Ngon near Kan Myint Kan and the point 1455 hill was retreated. When the military column started to move out, there were more than 360 troops, and when Lieutenant Colonel Kyaw Kyaw Thet was injured, only more than 70 remained. Most of the military personnel were killed and many more were injured.
In addition, there were missing persons. There were nearly 100 wounded and some died because they could not be taken to the hospital. The wounded were transferred from the Kan Myint Kan region to Gotsiro, and were transported to the Padang military area via Gok sih yo in a military convoy. Then, on January 31, the AA attacked the Gok Sih Yo area.
Then, Lieutenant Colonel Kyaw Kyaw Thet and about 20 troops retreated to Gok Sih Yo area. After retreating for about 3 days, he was wounded and surrendered to the AA while stationed at Point 1399. It is reported that the Prisoner of war (POW), acting tactical commander, Lieutenant Colonel Kyaw Kyaw Thet, attended the 43rd Cadet Course of the Royal Myanmar Military Academy in 1998.
