A young Chin woman studying in Japan was killed in a car accident at 12:09 (midnight) on Saturday, January 4, 2025 according to Tg. Thawng Suan Pau, the chairman of the Siyin Chin Community in Japan. The 22-year-old who died in the car accident was identified as Lia Dim Thian Muang Thaw, a second-year international relations student at Asia Pacific University in Beppu, Oita , Japan.
“She was riding her motorcycle to go shopping when a car hit her from behind. Her friend saw her from behind and was scared and couldn’t ask her anything yet. She died on the spot. The attacker fled but was arrested by the police. Lia Dim Thian Muang Thawng is from Buanman village, Tedim Township, Chin State, and grew up in Yangon. She is the only daughter of Pa Dennis Thawng Cin Nang and Nu Khup Dawn Cing from Yangon.
Regarding the case, “The body has not yet been returned to us. We cannot say when or how the funeral will be. It is a police case, so there are some difficulties. We have to do a postmortem. We will do what her parents want. Her parents are also trying to come to Japan,” said Tg. Thawng Suan Pau, chairman of the Siyin Chin Community in Japan.
He continued, “I am deeply saddened by the loss of a future scholar. I would like to appeal to all Myanmar-born people in Japan to help in any way they can, whether financially or intellectually, in this matter.” The school where Lia Dim Thian Muang Thaw attends is taking responsibility for the case.
