Lalnunfeli Fanai, known professionally as Feli Fanai, a prominent figure in the Mizo pop music scene, passed away February 12, 2025, Wednesday morning at 2:15 AM local time. The singer, 34, died at Ebenezer Hospital in Aizawl after battling a series of illnesses. She had spent a significant portion of her hospitalization in intensive care.

Feli, one of the most renowned Mizo female pop stars of her time, with a fan following extending beyond Mizoram’s borders, was initially admitted to Aizawl Hospital on December 20, 2024, due to a deteriorating health condition. She was immediately placed in the ICU. After showing limited improvement, she was transferred to Ebenezer Hospital on January 6, 2025, with hopes of better outcome, but, sadly passed away.

Feli’s contributions to Mizo music were significant. She’s credited with being among Mizo pop stars who introduced neo-Mizo pop and aesthetics to the region’s music scene, particularly through her visually striking music videos. She first entered that industry at young age, with the release of the song “Min Han Leh La”. On November 19, 2013, she released her debut studio album, “Fam Khawlawi,” a collection of 10 songs from various composers. The release was particularly poignant as it coincided with the anniversary of her father’s passing, serving as a tribute to him.

Seven years later, on January 30, 2020, Fanai released her second and, ultimately, final album, “Tuma’n An Tluk Lo,” a 13-track project distributed digitally on platforms like Apple Music. The album showcased her hit singles, including the title track, along with popular songs like “Pheichhehmawi I Khai Ang Aw” and “Lengdang Tang A Bel.” It also included collaborations and re-releases of some of her earlier work.

News of Fanai’s death has prompted an outpouring of grief on social media, with fans across the region expressing their shock and condolences. Her body will be transported to Champhai following a brief stop at a relative’s residence in Ramhlun North Industry Mual, Aizawl.
