10 civilians, including children, were killed in a non-violent airstrike by the Myanmar Military Council on May 23, 2019, on the villages of Thasi and Minsu in Minkin Township, Sagaing Region, at around 2:45 p.m. The dead included 10 children aged between 5 and 11, and some of the injured were in critical condition.
The people killed and injured in the airstrike were Ma Hnin Yat Win, 5, Maung Phone Khant Phyo, 6, Maung Htet Nay Kyi and Maung Phyo Min Khant, 7, Maung Saung Thazin Nwe and Maung Kyaw Phyo Aung, 8, Ma Phyo Ei Zin, 9, Maung Shin Thant, 11, Maung Shin Thant, 23, Chit San Nwe, and 27, Hnin Ei San.
In addition, Ma Yin Hla, 35, Thein Lwin Oo, 36, Pyu Sein, 38, Bo Oo, 39, Hnin Nu Aung, 40, Zaw Min Oo, 42, Zaw Lin, 46, Maung Soe, 48, and Daw Sein Ser, 74. On May 13, the military council bombed Htun Rawai village in Yathetaung Township for no reason, killing 12 civilians, including children and women, and injuring at least 23 others. In addition, on May 14 and 15, the Military Council bombed Kyauktaw township, killing 7 civilians and injuring at least 11 others.
On May 12, a school in Oh Hteng Kwin village in Depayin Township was bombed, killing 24 children, including two teachers, and injuring hundreds more. The military council has declared a ceasefire from May 6 to May 31, but airstrikes, military incursions, and the shooting and killing of civilians are continuing across the country.
