The Military Council deliberately bombed a school in Oht Theng Dwin Kyi village, Depayin Township, Sagaing Region, killing 22 people, including a teacher and a student, and injuring more than 60. The Military Council dropped a 500-pound bomb on the school, which was providing intermediate education, at around 10 a.m. on May 12, causing mass deaths.
“The school is closed because the bombs keep coming, and the students are not able to finish their studies. We have to bring in replacements to complete their education. Children in areas where bombs are constantly dropped close their schools after they come. They think it is calm enough, but they reopen. When they reopen, they are massacred,” said a teacher teaching in the war-torn area.
A total of 22 students and two teachers were killed in the bombing, and 60 students and teachers were injured, according to the Free Rangers-Depayin. The dead students included six from G2, two from G3, four from G4, and children from G5, G7, G9, G10, and G 11, for a total of 20 deaths.
Military supporters and military council propaganda channels have been covering up the Military council’s actions by claiming that the school was not bombed, but that the PDFs were made to detonate a homemade bomb in the school, and that attending school while the school was closed was a lie.
