At around 12:00 noon on February 10, the Military council airstrike in Tlang Khua village, Thantlang Township, Chin State, killed 6 people and injured at least 7 others, and the Chin Human Rights Organization (CHRO) has called for an international investigation into the attack.
Among those injured in the military council airstrike were four students returning home from school, one of whom suffered a serious eye injury. One of the planes bombed a residential area in the village, destroying 11 houses under construction and a village clinic. The victims were all civilians.
According to witnesses, after the first Military council airstrike, the plane circled and bombed the same area again. The CHRO said the pattern was consistent with a “double-tap” attack, which is aimed at harming rescue workers and emergency responders. CHRO Executive Director Salai Za Uk Khar said the attack “clearly showed the intent to target civilians and instill fear in the population,” and that those responsible must be held accountable.
CHRO called for an urgent investigation by the UN and the international community into the attack, an end to the supply of jet fuel to the military, and accountability through international legal mechanisms. CHRO also called on the United Kingdom to convene an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.
On February 8, the Military commission carried out airstrikes on Mindat, Kanpetlet, and Matupi in southern Chin State, killing and injuring a civilian child, without any fighting. Human rights groups say the Myanmar military commission has frequently used airstrikes in ethnic areas, including Chin State, since the 2021 military coup.’
