The Chin National Defense Force (CNDF) is fighting a battle to capture Falam town in Chin State, and its allies have been fighting for the last few days, but the helicopter that arrived in the area was unable to provide reinforcements due to the Chin National Defense Force’s fire and had to turn back, said Salai Timi, a spokesman for the CNDF.

In response to reports that a Military council helicopter was hit by the Chin National Defense Force’s fire during the December 31, 2024 battle and had to land at the Kalemyo airport, Salai Timi said. “There was an MI 17. We heard that it was supposed to be a reinforcement. But when we opened fire on it, they turned back. We don’t know how much damage it did. We heard that they turned back because of bad weather. We heard from the Military council that the helicopter was hit,” Salai Timi said.

The Chin Brotherhood and its allies, including the CNDF, have been fighting for Falam town since November 9, and the fighting has continued for more than 50 days. The Chin Brotherhood has captured five Military council positions, including the Falam district police station and the township police station, and only the 268th Battalion headquarters remains.

In mid-December, the Military council sent about 100 reinforcements by helicopter to the Falam battle, destroying all the Military council forces and capturing their weapons and ammunition, according to Chin Brotherhood officials. In addition, Salai Thang Chawn Phe , chairman of the Chin Brotherhood soldier committee, said he was confident that Falam would be completely captured soon.

The Chin Brotherhood attacked and captured Mindat and Kanpetlet in Chin State last December. In addition, they captured Kyin Dwey in April and Matupi in June. During the Chin Brotherhood’s one-year campaign, over 600 members of the Military council were captured as prisoners of war, and over 1,000 pieces of various small arms and ammunition were seized from the Military council.
