The Chin Brotherhood (CB) said it is jointly blocking a Military Council column heading from Kalaymyo in Sagaing Region to northern Chin State. The forces are said to be from two forces in the Chin Hills, the Chin Brotherhood (CB) and the Chinland Council (CC).
The Military council column, which began on May 20, includes 15 military vehicles and more than 200 infantry soldiers, the Chin Brotherhood (CB) said in an online press conference on June 18. It is understood that it has passed through Khai Kam, a town in Tedim Township, where fighting has already taken place, Salai Yaw Mang said. Khai Kam town is about 10 miles from where it started.
“The Military Council column has crossed Khai Kam from Kalaymyo and is now in Mualpi village. There has been close combat in Mualpi since the end of May,” said Salai Yaw Mang, a spokesman for the Chin Brotherhood (CB). The CDF-Siyin, PDF-Zoland, CNDF, CDF-KKG, and the PDF Battalion 4 based in Kalay Township are all fighting against the column of Military Council, Salai Yaw Mang said.
He said there had been some success in the fighting, and that some members of the Military council had surrendered, but he did not give details. Salai Yaw Mang said that if the column could advance past Taingen village, it could advance to Tedim town or Falam town, which the Chin Brotherhood group has captured. The column “will not reach Taingen,” he said.
The Chin Brotherhood group also said that a column of Military Council was heading southern into Chin State. The column, which includes 100 military vehicles from Division (101) based in Pakokku, Magway Region, was reportedly carrying out paramotor bombing attacks along the route, according to Chin Brotherhood group spokesman Salai Yaw Mang.
The Chin Brotherhood (CB) is monitoring the situation of the Military council column approaching Kanma town, Magway Region. The Chin Brotherhood and the Chinland Council are cooperating militarily in Tedim Township, but there is competition between some grassroots groups in other townships.
On the other hand, the Indian central government and the Mizoram state government in India are urging the two major Chin resistance forces to unite, the Chin Brotherhod said. The two forces have agreed in principle to form the Chin National Council through negotiations, but the Chin Brotherhood said that they still need to discuss the matter in detail.
Some Chin Nationalist leaders told a press conference that they still need to build mutual trust and reach a political agreement. The Chin Brotherhood was formed on December 30, 2023. The group includes the Chin National Council (Mintat), Chin National Organization (CNO), Zomi Federal Union (ZFU), It consists of six groups: the Chin Defence Force (Kanpalet), the Chinland Defence Force (Matupi) Brigade (1), and the Mara Territory Administrative Council (MTC).
The Chinland Council was formed on 6 December 2023, led by the Chin National Front (CNF), a long-standing Chin armed resistance group. Some groups of the Chin Defence Force (CDF) are influenced by the Chinland Council (CC).
