Family members of Burmese migrant workers who were arrested in Imphal prison in Manipur state the state are protesting today November 10, 2024 for their release. It is said that 27 Burmese men who have been imprisoned are on hunger strike in prison. The family members of a person who was kidnapped said that they are protesting to get help because they have not yet received proof of citizenship issued by the Burmese embassy and have not yet been allowed to return.

“Now we have men left. They have not yet been able to return because the embassy did not issue them a card to allow them to return to Myanmar. I want to be released soon. It’s been more than four years now, and I’m being tortured in various ways in prison. We want the relevant authorities to do it.” Family members said that there are currently 56 weaver workers arrested in Imphal prison, 27 men, 21 women and eight children.

They are people who were arrested under the immigration law after the authorities caught them while they were weaving in the India, Manipur state in 2021. Family members said that 38 Burmese women who had been arrested in Imphal prison in Manipur state, India, were returned to the military council on June 11, and on May 2, 38 Burmese women were returned to India.
