The CDF Tonzang group is providing basic military training to youth in Tonzang Township, Chin State, and some local youth are reportedly fleeing. The military training is for men aged 18 to 35, and the CDF Tonzang side says it is providing security training to protect them from the military council and the ZRA. The first batch of about 120 youth received short-term military training, and about 80 youth received military training this week.

“They forced each household to attend the military training, or if they didn’t, they would drag the households to attend. In the first batch, some of them ran away during the training period. The administrator told me to finish the training, so I ran away right after the training. Now, the second batch is being trained. There are more young people who have escaped,” said a local. Those who have completed the training will be allowed to join the CDF Tonzang unit if they want to, and those who don’t want to will be kept as reserve forces in their own villages as public security.

“For public security, to protect the military council and the ZRA, the young people are forced to attend the public security training. The village council meeting of Tonzang Township decided that every village in the village must attend the military training, and the township council agreed to it. This is security training regarding the burning of Nakzang village and Bungmual village,” said U Thang Suan Mung, Chief of Staff of the CDF- Tonzang. Tonzang Township was captured by the Chinland Council (CC) Joint Forces in May 2024 and is now under public administration.
