After resigning from the National Unity Government (NUG), Minister for International Cooperation Dr. Sa Sa led the formation of the Institute of Peace and Federal Democracy (IPFD) with Chin intellectuals in the United States. IPFD is a registered and legally active institution with the US government and has also opened a legal bank account for its finances.
In addition to establishing this institution in the United States, the institution will continue to expand in countries with large Burmese communities, including the UK and Australia. IPFD has three institutional paths: governance, lobbying and organizing, and financial and economic institutions. As a first visible step after the establishment of the institution, the True Choice Myanmar application will be launched in December to collect public opinion on the sham elections of the military council.
Dr. Sa Sa said, “When we do this revolution, we go to war when we have donations. When we don’t have donations, we retreat. This revolution cannot go forward. We need financial and economic processes. So there are three institutions. Institution number 1 is the administrative institution. Institution number 2 is the lobbying and organizing institution. Institution number 3 is the financial and economic institution. We would like to briefly introduce that if we don’t go forward like this, the revolution cannot go forward. Institution number 1 will go towards obtaining natural resources. Institution number 2, once we have natural resources, we need to form an army. Institution number 3, we need to go towards military victory. Institution number 4, after that, we need to draft a new constitution and hold elections. Institution number 5, we need to shout loudly and internationally that Myanmar is the United States of Myanmar (USM).”
The establishment of the IPFD in the United States is a systematic response to the military council’s actions. The military council has paid millions of dollars to lobby companies in the United States, and the revolutionary forces need the support of young intellectuals to compete with the efforts of the educated youth working in these lobbying companies.
IPFD Chairman Rome Thalop said, “The situation in Myanmar is now good, there have been free and fair elections in Myanmar, and in fact there are many problems and conflicts. But this statement came from the Department of Homeland Security. This is not actually information that came from them. It came from a lobby company paid by the military. So you can say that the lobby company made this statement. The lobby company took away our TPS rights. We need to respond to this strategy that the military has.”
The Chin youth leading the institution formed by Dr. Sa Sa are both educated and business experts. Dr. Sasa explained that the Ministry of International Cooperation of the National Unity Government (NUG), where he served as Union Minister, was a ministry that the NUG government had planned to downsize, and that he resigned from his position and established the institutions because he wanted to carry out revolutionary work with greater independence than the current situation.
