Fierce fighting took place today (May 28) near the village of Sone Si Myaing, where the Democratic Karen Army (DKBA) headquarters is located on the Myawaddy-Wale road in Karen State, and more than 20 prisoners of war and a large number of weapons were captured, according to local KNLA military sources.
The Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA/KNU) and allied forces attacked the DKBA border camp, the Te Baw Boe military camp, near the DKBA headquarters, and about 100 reinforcements from the KNLA along the Myawaddy-Wale road near Son Sae Myaing.
The fighting was fought between the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and the People’s Defense Forces (PDF) of the Government of National Unity, Ministry of Defense, Southern Military Region, Military Region No. 3, The 32nd Battalion led the attack.
The KNLA PDF 32nd Battalion blocked and cleared the Military Council columns that had come to support the DKBA camp on May 27 and today (May 28), and seized weapons and ammunition from the Military Council troops, the Black Panther Column said.
The Military Council’s Cobra Column, Black Panther Column, and Venom Column joined the 32nd Battalion, 3 Military Council battalions, 1 Miliatray Council battalion, and 11 small outposts in 2024, the Southern Military District reported. Hundreds of locals in Sone Si Myaing village near the DKBA headquarters have fled to Thailand due to fighting between the KNLA/PDF coalition forces and the MMRC.
The KNLA/PDF coalition forces are continuing their assault on the Military Council’s camp on the Thai-Myanmar border, but a military source based in the area said that the details could not be released due to the security situation. The Karen National Union (KNU) announced on May 21 that it has captured eight military bases in the Thaung Rin River region on the Thai-Myanmar border since December 16 last year.
The military bases in Doo Plai, Wale, Kyauk Khat, and Phlu in Doo Plai district, which are under the control of KNU Brigade 6 on the Thai-Myanmar border, were captured by KNLA/PDF forces in early 2022 and were forced to retreat due to military council airstrikes.
