Military sources say the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) is intensifying its offensive to capture Bhamo, and the military council is repeatedly providing air support. The KIA allies have been fighting since December 4, 2024, to capture the entire Bhamo and Mansi regions. After more than a month of fighting, the KIA increased its offensive on January 6, and the Military council is using fighter jets and Y12 aircraft to bomb the area.
Today (January 7), fighting in Bhamo and Mansi intensified, and the KIA fired on a Y12 aircraft that was bombing the KIA, the source said. “A Y12 ran towards Myitkyina with a trail of smoke after being hit by KIA bullets,” a Kachin military source said. Another Kachin military source, who gave a report on the battle for Bhamo on January 6, said the offensive was aimed at completely capturing the enemy military council’s battalion headquarters in Bhamo and Mansi.
The military source said that from 7 am to 7:30 pm yesterday, the Military council carried out several bombing raids with Y12 fighter jets and also fired several artillery shells.
