Prof. Kham Khan Suan Hausing, faculty in the Department of Political Science, School of Social Sciences, University of Hyderabad (UoH) was invited to attend the Myanmar Peace Forum, 2025 held in Mingalar Thiri Hotel, Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar as a part of a four-member Indian delegation which comprised of Ambassador (Rtd) Jaideep Mazumdar, Atul Aneja (Senior Journalist), and Mr Sabyasachi Dutta, Executive Director, Asian Confluence. The theme of the three-day Peace Forum (25-27 June 2025) was on “Towards a New Nation of Peace and Prosperity through the Integration of Peace, Elections and Developments.” It was organised by the National Solidarity and Peace-making Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) as a sequel to the first Peace Forum held during March 2025. Unlike the first Forum, NSPNC invited for the first time noted international scholars and experts from India, Italy, China, Russia, and Thailand to present and share their expertise on the inaugural day of the Forum on 25 June 2025.

The three-day Peace Forum was addressed and attended by General Min Aung Hlaing, Chairman, State Administration Council (SAC) and Prime Minister of Myanmar and Lt. Gen. Min Naing, Secretary, NSPNC. Various ministers and high-ranking officials of SAC, Ethnic Armed Organisations, Policy Think Tank Groups, Civil Society Organisations, foreign plenipotentiaries including, among others, Abhay Thakur, Ambassador of India to Myanmar, scholars and experts from China, Italy, Russia, and Thailand also attended the Forum as special invitees.

Prof Suan Hausing presented and shared his expertise on “Ethnocentric Conflicts, Asymmetric Federalism and De-Escalation of Identity Politics,” as one of the panelists during Session 1 of the Forum titled, “Regional Approaches to Myanmar Initiatives on Upcoming Elections and Post-election Peace Building Opportunities.”

Ambassador Abhay Thakur hosted an official dinner for the Indian delegates at the historic India House in Yangon on 23 June 2025 where leading Myanmar think tank organisations and civil society leaders were also invited. A dinner hosted by Ambassador Thakur at Park Royal Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw on 25 June 2025 on the sidelines of the Peace Forum provided an excellent opportunity for the Indian delegates to interact and exchange invaluable ideas with various key stakeholders in the peace process. The Indian Embassy at Yangon and Nay Pyi Taw extended their warm hospitality and logistic support to the Indian delegates during their stay in Yangon and Nay Pyi Taw from 23-27 June.
