Chin State Council source said that two Military Council commanders were killed in an attack by the Chinland Council joint forces, which include the Chin National Army (CNA) and the Chinland Defense Forces (CDFs). “The names of the battalion commanders who died in the November 30 battle are known. One is Lieutenant Colonel Thaw Zin Latt, commander of the 222nd Battalion. Another is Lieutenant Colonel Aye Thant commander of the 266th Battalion. Among them, Lieutenant Colonel Aye Thant, commander of the 266th Battalion, was shot by the Chin State government troops on November 22.

“It was learned that he died in the Hakha General Hospital on November 30 after being injured in the hospital,” the Chin source said. In the battle to capture the Ruazavung camp, a total of 11 people, including the commander of the 222nd Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Thaw Zin Latt, and 19 others were captured alive.

The Chinland Council Joint Force captured at least 35 weapons and a large amount of ammunition during the battle to capture the camp. On that day, the Chinland Council Joint Force captured the Military council camps of Ruazazung, Nun Thluak Bo camp, and Umpu Puaknak , killing at least 14 of the Military Council troops, 19 of whom were alive, and capturing about 50 weapons. The commander of the 266th Battalion, who was on his way back to Hakha, was intercepted by the Chinland Council Joint Force with sniper fire, the source said.

“He went to meet his subordinates in Thantlang on November 22. He then returned to Hakha by car. While returning, Chinland Council forces opened fire on him in the car and injured him. He arrived in Hakha with that injury. He later died in hospital on November 30,” the source said. The 266th Battalion is a Hakha-based military council battalion, while the 222nd Battalion is a Military Council battalion based in Homalin, Sagaing Region. The 222nd Battalion was involved in the burning of Thantlang.
