The Israeli military spokesman confirmed on June 17 that the new Iranian chief of staff, Maj. Gen. Ali Shadmani, who was a close aide to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and replaced him in the first Israeli strike on Tehran, has been killed again. The statement said that the Israeli air force, in coordination with the Israeli Air Force, had targeted Ali Shadmani’s location after it was identified by special intelligence forces already in place inside Iran.

After the killing of General Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the first day of Israel’s Operation Rising Lion, in Iran, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) was purged four days later, after the Supreme Leader had appointed Shadmani as the supreme commander of the armed forces’ emergency command and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The purge of Iranian elite commanders, who had been targeted by Israel within days, killed IRGC General Hossein Salami, Chief of Staff Mohammad Bagheri, and IRGC Intelligence Chief Mohammad Kazemi, as well as other military leaders and nuclear scientists. Earlier this week, Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency reported that five car bombs exploded in Tehran in conjunction with Israeli airstrikes, killing dozens of nuclear scientists.
