The Kokang Army, MNDAA, announced in a statement that it will cease hostilities starting December 3 at China’s urging and will not launch offensive attacks against the Military Council. It also said it will actively participate in China’s mediation and resolve issues between the two armies, including the Lashio battle, through dialogue.

The Kokang Army, also known as the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA), also said in a statement issued on December 3 that the Kokang Army will not secede from Burma and establish a new country, and that it is only demanding a self-administered zone. The MNDAA has demanded that the Military Council cease its airstrikes and ground offensives across Burma. On the other hand, it supports political dialogue but will continue to retain the right to self-defense.

The MNDAA also said it will send a high-level delegation to the talks with the Military Council.
China has reportedly detained the leader of the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) since October, a claim denied by the Chinese Foreign Ministry. During Operation 1027, the MNDAA captured nine towns in northern Shan State, including Lashio. China-Myanmar observers say the Military Council is trying, with Chinese assistance, to force the MNDAA to withdraw from Lashio.
