Incessant rains have caused floods and landslides across the state in Mizoram, and three IDPs have died in a landslide in Vaphai village. At around (4:00am) on May 31, 2025 a house where IDPs were staying collapsed due to incessant rains in Vaphai village of Champhai district.
The deceased in the landslide were identified as Pu Lenkhuaithanga (71 age), Pi Lalneihthuami (48 age), and Pi Lalramniengi (34 age), who was four months pregnant and had come from Vutbuak village in Kalay township, Mizoram local news reported. Pi Lalramniengi’s husbands Pu Pekhmingthanga and Lalzama, both of whom were lucky to survive the accident, but were injured.
The bodies of the three people who died in the landslide were buried in Vaphai village this afternoon led by YMA. Similarly, a local man died in a landslide in Serchhip town this morning. In Mizoram’s Lawngtlai town, a landslide occurred last night, destroying at least five houses and a guest house, and people trapped in the debris have been rescued.
