Malaysian authorities arrested 597 undocumented foreigners in a raid at Sunway Mantri Kok, Selangor, Malaysia, at around 11pm on May 22, 2025 including over 100 Myanmar Chin nationals. The undocumented foreigners include 226 Myanmar nationals, 201 Indonesians, 71 Bangladeshis, 46 Pakistanis, 44 Nepalis, eight Indians and one Thai national, the Malaysian Immigration Department said in a statement on May 23.
A Chin man in Malaysia said, “More than 100 of the arrested Myanmar nationals are known to be Zomi. If those arrested have filed a UN petition, I think they will be released if the UN office or relevant committee helps. I don’t know if those who have no UN petition or no evidence will be arrested or immediately deported to Burma.” Malaysian authorities are also planning to start deporting foreigners living in Malaysia through legal channels instead of jailing them on May 19, 2025.
