A man in Kuhchah village, Thantlang Township, Chin State, shot his wife and 12-year-old daughter before committing suicide on the night of January 22, killing three members of his family. The incident occurred at around 11 p.m. on January 22, 2026.

The 33-year-old head of household, Pu Ceu Hnin Thang, shot his sleeping wife, Pi Ni Cer Hnem (34 years old), and his middle daughter, Iang Par (12 years old). The shooting killed his wife on the spot. The daughter was seriously injured and died on the way to the hospital.

The youngest daughter, who was home at the time of the incident, was unharmed, while the eldest daughter was in school in Hakha and was safe. During the shooting, her grandfather and others at home tried to snatch the gun, but Pu Ceu Hnin Thang stepped on the trigger and shot himself in the jaw, killing himself on the spot.

The bodies of the three (3) families who survived were buried at 3 pm on January 23. Pu Ceu Hnin Thang was a loving family man, but locals say he had been suffering from mental health problems since Christmas 2025. He suffered from paranoia and severe anxiety that someone was trying to kill him.

Some sources say he was a heavy drinker, but another local said he did not drink alcohol and was suffering from a mental disorder. As his mental condition worsened, villagers and family members kept him awake at night, but this tragic incident occurred in the middle of nowhere.
