A group formed by Mizoram Chief Minister Pulaldoma is mediating between the Chinland Council (CC) and the ICNCC/ Chin Brotherhood for reconciliation and peace. The Secretary of the Chinland Council informed about the situation of the reconciliation between the two Chin rebel groups at a press conference held online on February 6 to mark the first anniversary of the Chinland Council.

“Recently, the Indian-based Advocacy Team (Cooperation Team) has been formed by the Chief Minister in Mizoram. From that team, we have held first-level talks, either individually or jointly. Through that, we will build trust between us. We will first work on areas where we can cooperate with each other. “I would like to respond to the question of whether there is a possibility of holding meetings and discussions through that,” said Chinland Council Secretary Salai Paul.

An Advocacy Team led by the Chief Minister of Mizoram has been formed and is working to mediate between the two Chin forces since the end of 2024. The Chin State Council and the ICNCC/ Chin Brotherhood have held one in-depth meeting, and as a result, they have agreed to meet again soon. The Advocacy Team is led by the Chief Minister of Mizoram and is formed and operated by civil society organizations (CSOs) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Mizoram.

“Since 2024, there have been groups that have been officially recognized as third parties. There are also negotiations taking place in many places. In some places, there are even signings where cooperation is possible. “Our discussions are mainly about implementing a dialogue model that can be implemented in the near future. We have many differences of opinion among us, but we also have a long-term process to discuss step by step. We also have a strategic process that is being implemented by third-party mediators. We will continue to work as agreed by the third-party mediator. We are currently going in the same way,” said Salai Paul.

Chin Peace and Reconciliation Initiative, Zo Reunification Organization (ZORO), Crisis Management Initiative (CMI), and other local and international civil society organizations are also working to reunify the Chin forces. During the mediation of ZORO since September 2024, five points were agreed upon between the Chin State government and the ICNCC / Chinland Brotherhood, including not using weapons to resolve differences and holding further talks.
