The National Unity Government (NUG) Acting President Duwashila said he hopes for a revolutionary pact between the mainland and the ethnic minorities like the Panglong Agreement and an alliance of all ethnic groups. The Acting President made the remarks at a ceremony marking the 78th anniversary of the Panglong Agreement on February 12.
“We want a strong revolutionary pact between the mainland and the mountains like the Panglong Agreement to emerge during the Spring Revolution. In addition, we all hope for the emergence of an alliance of all ethnic groups.” The civil war that accompanied independence clearly ignored the rights of ethnic groups as stipulated in the Panglong Agreement, the Acting President said.
The current revolution is politically, Duwalashila said that the struggle for liberation is not a struggle for ethnic and religious discrimination, but a struggle for liberation for the Burmese and ethnic minorities. He also urged the current generation to fulfill the responsibilities of the revolution and to hand over the responsibility of building a new federal democratic union to the new generation.
The Chin National Front (CNF), Palaung State Liberation Front (PSLF), All Burma Students Democratic Front (ABSDF), and Mon State Consultative Council (MSCC) sent messages to various military and political organizations to commemorate the 78th anniversary of the Panglong Agreement.
