Russia, China, Belarus and Laos have opposed ILO Article 33 action against military council, the National Unity Government (NUG) announced today (June 6). The ILO decided to take action against the military council under ILO Article 33 at the 113th International Labour Conference (ILC) held in Geneva, Switzerland yesterday (June 5), and Russia, China, Belarus and Laos opposed the decision.

The action against the military council under ILO Article 33 is due to violations of labor rights, human rights, and violations of ILO Article 87 on freedom of association and assembly and Article 29 on forced labor. The statement said that U Maung Maung Lwin of the Myanmar Workers’ Alliance (MLA/CTUM) on behalf of the tripartite delegation of the National Unity Government made the following remarks in his opening remarks at the conference.

In addition, labor representative Daw Phyo Sandar Moe (MLA/CTUM) said that the action taken under Article 33 for the military council’s violations of basic labor rights, human rights violations, oppression, and terrorist acts is not revenge but for the dignity, justice, development, and reconstruction of the lives of the Burmese people. In addition, the NUG said that the ILO’s decision is a victory for the Burmese people over the years of oppression and oppression by the military.

The NUG continued by saying that the governments, employers, and workers’ representatives of ILO member countries, workers abroad, trade union members, and leaders of the Burmese people stand in solidarity with the Burmese people. The NUG said the Article 33 resolution proves that military councils and their allies around the world cannot be controlled by anyone with weapons.
