The Military council of Kyauktaw, has confirmed the death of seven civilians in an airstrike in Rakhine State, bringing the total number of deaths in three days of airstrikes to 21. The airstrikes targeted the Ywama neighborhood of Kyauktaw town from 2:10 p.m. today (May 15) to 15 minutes after the airstrikes, a local Rakhine source said.

“We can confirm that seven people were killed. Four were injured. They thought they would not do it again if they were hit yesterday. I heard that some of them were children,” he said. The Ywama neighborhood was also bombed by jet fighters at 3:51 p.m. yesterday (May 14), killing two locals and injuring five others. This brings the total number of deaths in Kyauktaw town to 9 and injuring nine others, according to local sources.

In addition, on May 13, The military council has bombed the former village of Tun Ra Wai with jet fighters, killing 12 civilians and injuring 23. The military council has been bombing Rakhine State for three days. The Arakan Army (AA) said the military council is taking advantage of a ceasefire to effectively deliver humanitarian aid to earthquake-hit people to launch airstrikes on innocent civilians.

“The military council is committing war crimes across Myanmar. We have seen such targeted killings to instill fear in innocent people. Therefore, if the military council is to be held accountable for its actions, they must be held accountable for these massacres,” said AA spokesman U Khaing Thu Kha. The AA said the military council’s record of mass killings of innocent civilians and war crimes across the country is well documented.
