Syrian rebel leader Abu Mohammed al-Golani and Prime Minister Mohammed al-Jalali held talks on a power transfer, rebels said on Monday. Prime Minister Jalali said on Sunday that they were ready to work with any leader chosen by the people and implement a power transfer.
The rebels’ Telegram account said they had agreed on a power transfer that would ensure the delivery of services to the Syrian people. Mohammed Bashir, the head of the rebel-held government in northwest Syria, was also present at the meeting, a short video posted on the site showed. Idlib province and surrounding areas were controlled by the rebel group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).
The prime minister said most of the government’s ministers are still working after the fall of former President Bashar al-Assad. But government operations have completely stopped, said Adam Abdel moula, the UN’s humanitarian coordinator for Syria.
