According to the Military Council, 145 Rohingya were arrested on August 11th yesterday morning near Wekhmi Village in Thanphyuzara Township, Mon State. The Rohingya who were accompanied by three cars carrying paving stones were taken to Wekhmi village, 14 miles away from Thanphyuzarat. Dr. Aung Myat Kyaw Sein, spokesman for the Mon State Military Council, said that he was arrested at around 10:00 a.m. yesterday on the Thanphyuzarat-Rae road.
“At 10 o’clock in the morning, I was caught in a car carrying stones on the road leaving Thanphyuzarat. 145 people. We are still investigating where they came from and why.” Among those arrested were 127 men and 18 women. Currently, the Rohingya are being held in Thanphyuzarat, It is said that they are being interrogated at the township sports hall in the new machine area. Where these Rohingyas came from and where they are going is still unknown.
On August 7th, a boat with 55 Rohingya people in Rakhine state. It sank in the Sittwe Sea. Similarly, on June 19, six Rohingya were arrested by the Military Council at the Mayanchaung Village checkpoint in Kyaik Tho Township, Mon State. Rohingyas living in refugee camps in Rakhine State and Bangladesh are venturing out to Malaysia due to job shortages.
