It is reported that the United States sent the ammunition seized from Iran to Ukraine. For years, the U.S. Navy has intercepted and stored munitions believed to have been shipped by Iran to pro-Iranian Houthi rebels in Yemen. These bullets can be used in rifles like the Ak-47 used by the Ukrainian military.
The U.S. military said on October 4 that more than a million rounds of ammunition seized from Iran last year were handed over to Ukraine. The US Central Command, which oversees operations in the Middle East, announced that it had shipped 1.1 million rounds of 7.62mm ammunition to Ukraine.
The cartridges were intercepted by the United States when Iran’s Revolutionary Guards were transporting them to Yemen-based Houthi rebels. Military analysts say the bullets won’t make a huge difference on the battlefield. Long-range and anti-aircraft weapons are at the top of Ukraine’s most-wanted list as it fights a war of aggression against Russia.
There are government spending limits in the United States, and after the parliament did not separately approve the budget to support Ukraine, Ukraine is seriously worried about not getting American military weapons, and the export of ammunition is not likely to ease.
US President Joe Biden has said that his government is determined to continue unwavering support for Ukraine no matter what the situation.
