The Zomi National Party led by U Thang Sian Khai (Banzaal) applied to the Union Election Commission on July 3 to register as a political party, according to reports in the Military Council controlled media called The New Light of Myanmar. The Zomi National Party (ZNP), which was granted party registration on June 24, said it has 30 days from the date of its establishment to apply for registration under Rule 7 of the Political Parties Registration Act.

The Zomi National Party applied to the Union Election Commission on April 30, 2025 for party registration. U Thang Sian Khai, who leads the Zomi National Party, is a well-known singer and actor among the Zomi (Chin) community. It is also reported that 27 groups have applied to the Union Election Commission to establish parties, and 19 political parties have been granted permission to establish them. Currently, 14 out of 18 political parties that applied for registration have been granted registration, and the Union Election Commission is still reviewing the registration of the remaining parties.

It is also reported that the Khumi National Party, which has already been registered to represent Chin State, and the Chin New Congress Party and the Zomi National Party, which have applied for party registration, will compete in the multi-party general election that the Military council is preparing to hold in the third and fourth weeks of December 2025 and the first and second weeks of January 2026.
