India’s Home Minister Amit Shah said that a fence will be erected along the border after hundreds of military council troops fled to the Indian side during the fighting on the India-Myanmar border. “The government has decided to fence the entire India-Myanmar border,” Amit Shah said during his visit to Assam, AFP reported yesterday (January 21). There was no word on when the more than 750-mile long border fence would be completed or for how long.

Due to the India-Myanmar border fighting, there are also thousands of people fleeing the war from Myanmar who have fled to the Indian state of Mizoram. In that situation, the Indian government is planning to withdraw the right to travel across the border without the need for a visa to two countries called the Free Movement Regime (FMR), according to The India Express.

The Indian government has not disclosed the purpose of the fence along the India-Myanmar border. However, in the northern Paletwa Township of Chin State, on the Indian-Myanmar border, clashes broke out between the Rakhine Army (AA) and the Chin Revolutionary Defense Forces (MDF) and the military council.

As a result of the fighting, Burmese soldiers often leave their camps and enter Mizoram. According to the compiled lists, on November 13, 2023, November 16, November 29, December 29, on January 6 this year, hundreds of military council soldiers fled to India. As of the first week of January, there have been a total of 5 escapes, and the total number of fleeing soldiers may be over 500.
