Kolin, a district-level town in upper Sagaing Division, was captured by the revolutionary groups this morning (November 6) after a four-day offensive. Surrounded by forests and on the Mandalay-Myitkyina railway, Kolin town was attacked by a large number of forces from the early morning of 2023, November 3rd. At around 8:00 a.m. today, the military council was last resisting in the Township General Administration Department’s office compound, as the soldiers raised the white flag and surrendered, ending the battle of the revolutionary forces.
During the battle, more than 60 were killed on the side of the military council. There are those who have been arrested, at least 20 civilians were killed and injured due to the military’s airstrikes. It has been investigated that there have been casualties on the side of the revolutionary forces, but the details have not yet been confirmed.
The Ministry of Defense of the National Unity Government (NUG) announced that they successfully attacked the land registry office, the Myanmar Commercial Bank, High School, the police station and the general office, and captured a district-level city for the first time. 54 weapons and many more ammunition were seized.
“After hearing the news about Kolin, they are panicking in Khah Mah Yah- 309. They are digging bomb shelters,” said a resident of Katha town. Similarly, in the town of Won Thu, which is bordering the town of Kolin, the situation in the military council camps is not normal, but the residents said that the situation is complicated.
“They feel like they have to run here and there. Now it’s their turn to run again. I’ve also heard that they’re going to give up their weapons,” said a resident of Kolin. The general administration office in Htee Chai town was also closed this morning and all the employees are fleeing to Mya Thein Tan Mountain where the army is stationed, according to some local residents.
