The Association for the Assistance of Political Prisoners (AAPP) informed today, August 2, that among the 7,749 people who were released by the coup military council on August 1, only more than 120 political prisoners were included, and most of them were nearing the end of their sentences.

AAPP pointed out that the military council did not openly publish the information of the released political prisoners to hinder the verification of whether there were political prisoners among those released.

AAPP also noted that the only political prisoners who were freed were those who had been unjustly arrested. In addition, the political prisoners who were released were those who only had months left to serve their sentences.
