The 539th Infantry Battalion of the Military Council Army, based in Kansauk village, Kyauktaw Township, Rakhine State, surrendered to the Rakhine Army (AA) today (January 16), according to local media and local residents.
The Infantry -539 Battalion is a Military Council camp based at the foot of Kansauk Mountain next to the Yangon – Sittwe road. In a video posted on social media at around 7pm tonight, several soldiers and their family members are seen being brought in by AA troops.
A Kansauk villager said that the Arakan Army started attacking the camp yesterday (January 15). AA Chief of Staff General Tun Myat Naing wrote on his social network yesterday that the Military Council soldiers in Rakhine state should surrender their weapons. The AA captured the city of Paletwa in Chin State after a final attack on all military council camps on January 10.
