U Thant Zin Oo, the son of General Thura U Tin Oo, said that the Co-founder and Patron of the National League for Democracy Party, NLD, General Thura U Tin Oo, passed away at 8:50 this morning of June 1, 2023. According to Burmese customs, the funeral is scheduled for 5 days, and it is planned to be buried on Wednesday, June 5.

“He passed away at 8:50 a.m. We will count 5 days. I think it will be Wednesday. During his lifetime, he worked for the country, the nation, and the country, so I want to say that he fulfilled all his duties peacefully. The family is thinking of having a simple funeral. It will be a normal funeral.” He said that he was 99 years old when he died, and his health condition worsened recently, so he was being treated in the emergency room of Yangon Hospital.

The 99-year-old former Chief of Defense Staff, U Tin Oo, is suffering from a stroke. General Thura U Tin is a former General of the Tatmadaw who is particularly prominent in the anti-dictatorship democracy and human rights movement in Myanmar. He has been working together with Aung San Suu Kyi since the establishment of the NLD party and has been leading it.

He was also one of the commanders who fought against the invading White Chinese. On March 8, 1974, he was promoted to the rank of general and took charge as the Commander-in-Chief of the Tatmadaw. He was also awarded the title for fighting bravely and excelling in battles. 1976 On March 6, he retired from the army.

1988 On September 24, former Brigadier General U Aung Gyi, Former Colonel U Kyi Maung Retired Brigadier General U Aung Shwe; Along with State Counselor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, General Thura U Tin Oo was among those who founded the National League for Democracy. He was the chairman of the National League for Democracy for 2 years and continued to be the patron of the party until his death. At the time of his death, he left behind a wife, son, and 1 grandchild.
