The NUG’s Military Region 1 announced on January 12 that it had armed the PDF Session (4) Special Combat Unit that participated in the Pinyanbu Battle in Sagaing Region. The PDF Session (4) Special Combat Unit is a unit that fought fiercely in the Pinlebu battle and is comprised of troops from Sagaing Region, Magway Region, and Mandalay Region under the command of Military Region 1, the statement said.
The operation to capture Pinlebu Town was launched in August 2024 by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and PDF forces, and the Military council dropped more than 5,000 bombs from its aircraft before capturing it nearly two months later, the Ministry of Defense of the National Unity Government announced in October 2024.
70 members of the Military council were killed in the fighting, according to the Ministry of Defense of the Government of National Unity, 102 prisoners of war were captured by the PDF coalition forces and 48 surrendered. The Government of National Unity also released a statement, along with photographs, claiming that it had recovered more than 400 weapons and small arms from the Military council forces after the battle.
