Russia’s permanent representative to UN, Vasily Nibanya, expressed his disappointed that the United States vetoed Brazil’s proposal to the Security Council regarding the ongoing conflict between Palestinian Hamas and Israel.

Nebanya said Brazil’s proposal called for lifting the blockade on Gaza, ending the displacement of Palestinians, and unconditionally releasing civilian hostages. Brazil’s draft proposal was prepared by Russia with two points, but due to the US blockade, the Security Council was unable to approve it, Nibanya said.

After the shooting at the Gaza hospital, Nebanya said that Russia had prepared an immediate cease-fire for humanitarian aid and protest against the bombing of civilians. Nibanya also said that if the Security Council could not approve the proposal to save human lives, it would lead to more bloodshed.

The draft proposal submitted by Brazil was approved by 12 of the 15 member countries of the Security Council, but it could not be approved because the United States objected, Nibanya said. The United States’ permanent representative to the United Nations said the draft resolution did not mention Israel’s right to self-defense and did not condemn Hamas’s violence.

What is special is that Russia itself, which prepared and completed the draft proposal, did not vote in favor of it, and the news reported that it abstained from voting along with Britain. International news shows that it will be difficult for the Security Council to make any decisions regarding the conflict between Israel and Palestine, as the United States always defends Israel in the United Nations and the Security Council.

The United Nations and the Security Council could not do anything when Russia invaded Ukraine, and they will not be able to do anything about the current war between Hamas and Israel, according to international reports.
