South Korean President Yoon Suk-yo, who is facing treason charges and has been suspended from office, was arrested at his residence this morning, Korean media reported. The arrests were made at the presidential palace this morning as he attempted to investigate the president over his declaration of martial law on December 3.
Investigators entered Yoon Suk-yo’s residence this morning and were confronted by presidential security guards, who showed him an arrest warrant, and then took him to the Anti-Corruption Bureau for questioning in a presidential security vehicle, the report said.
“Unfortunately, the rule of law has completely collapsed in this country. Agencies without investigative authority are issuing arrest warrants, “We see that courts without warrants have issued arrest warrants and search warrants, and that investigative agencies have issued fake documents to deceive the public. It is regrettable that such illegal actions are being committed and that the procedures are not followed based on illegal warrants,” he said.
He did not attend the first hearing of the Constitutional Court on January 14 to hear whether Yoon Suu Kyi should be removed from office permanently due to security reasons. The court issued an arrest warrant for the first time in South Korea’s history for a president who was accused of leading a rebellion after President Yoon Suu Kyi declared martial law for six hours on December 3.
A South Korean resident said, “The investigation was still ongoing this morning. I was arrested at 10:30 a.m. The court must issue an additional order within 48 hours to continue my detention at the presidential office where I will be questioned. Whether it will be issued or not is not yet known. The status of the investigation depends on the president. “If he faces the court calmly, his people will be calm.
If he opposes, his people will defend him and oppose him. The party is also protecting him,” he said. He apologized to the people who were panicked when martial law was declared, but said he was determined to fight to the end.
