President Erdoğan signed and sent Sweden’s NATO membership application to Parliament on October 23, the Turkish Presidency announced. The Swedish government has said that it welcomes the Turkish president’s decision and hopes that the Turkish parliament will vote and approve it as soon as possible.

President Erdoğan confirmed this after the NATO Secretary General said that Turkey’s delay in Sweden’s application has become boring. Russian government reports indicate that if Sweden were to join NATO, the Baltic sea route would be completely blocked for Russia.
