The Pa-O National Liberation Army (PNLA) has obtained a video of the Military Council and its subordinate Pa-O People’s Army (PNO) shooting four prisoners of war in Si Sai Township, southern Shan State. The four captured PNLA soldiers were shot dead by military council and PNO troops from behind while their hands were tied. This incident occurred on January 12, 2025, during a battle near Thit Soe village in Si Sai Township, when the Military council and PNO captured five PNLA soldiers and tortured them to death on January 13. “The video we have now is of that incident. They didn’t kill five people at once. They killed one in another place, four people as shown in the video. They shot our people. In the video, the person who shot us from behind is wearing a military council uniform, but from what we know and from the statements of the prisoners of war, we have definite information that the military council and the PNO militia shot us together,” said PNLA spokesman Ko Khun Rein yan.

During the fighting in southern Shan State, the PNLA captured military council and PNO members, but they were detained in accordance with the Prisoners of War Act and did not torture or kill them. “We have captured members of the PNO militia, up to the rank of major. But we have never committed such torture or killing. We have only detained them in accordance with the Prisoner of War Law. We have also pardoned some of the PNO militia prisoners of war who were arrested because the Pa-O Literature and Culture Center or the Pa-O Monks’ Association appealed to us,” said Khun Rein Yan.

On January 12 of this year, when the military council and the Pa-O militia (PNO/PNA) under its control attacked Thi-Sone village in Sisone Township with a large force, there was fierce fighting on both sides, and 20 people, including a platoon commander, were killed by the PNO militia. In addition, the current fighting is not a conflict between ethnic groups, but a nationwide effort to overthrow the military dictatorship, so Khun Rein Yan continued to urge the military not to take actions that would benefit the Military dictatorship.
