The Iranian government announced on January 20 that the two countries have reached an agreement with the Afghan Taliban government to cooperate in the protection of human rights and the fight against terrorism. He said that the agreement was reached after a meeting between the Iranian president’s special envoy to Afghanistan, Hasan Kazmi, and members of the Taliban’s judicial council in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan.

According to the press release, they agreed to form a joint committee to fight terrorism, as well as to form a joint legal committee to protect human rights. The meeting was attended by the Iranian president’s special envoy, the head of Iran’s judicial council and the attorney general, and the interim foreign minister of the Taliban on the Afghan side.

Afghanistan-based news reported that a high-level Iranian delegation has arrived in Kabul after reports emerged that the Taliban had intervened to stop the firing and bombing attacks between Iran and Pakistan as soon as possible.
