According to local residents, a joint army led by the Chin National Army (CNA) and the military council are fighting fiercely in the town of Tonzang, Chin State. The military council forces stationed at the headquarters of the military council’s 269th battalion, were simultaneously attacked by a drone and joint force led by the CNA from 9:00 a.m. on May 16, 2024.
“CNA and CDFs attacked the soldiers stationed at the camp and office of the military council in Tonzang simultaneously with drones. Yesterday, there was a fight all day and night. We heard the sound of shooting until this morning. Now it is quiet,” a Tonzang resident told the Tongsan Media.
It is reported that local residents living near the departmental office buildings where the military council forces are stationed are fleeing to safety. In addition, the military council conducted an air attack on Nakzang village in Tonzang township at around 3:00 p.m. on May 17, and the local residents had to evacuate, according to the Public Administration of Tonzang Township.
“The sound of gunfire can still be heard from the battle. The plane is still hovering. An airstrike took place near the church of Nakzang village at around 3 o’clock today. The damage is not yet known. The people of the town and nearby villages are avoiding. There are no civilian casualties yet,” an official of the public administration of Tonzang Township told the Tongsan Media.
On May 17, the People’s Administration of Tonzang Township announced that about 10 houses, including a church, were destroyed and five houses were completely burnt down in Lungtak village in Tonzang Township on May 11th, due to an airstrike by the military council.
