The head of the ICC – International Criminal Court issued a statement today on May 20 that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu plans to issue an arrest warrant for Yahya Sinwar, the head of Hamas in Gaza, and some officials in connection with the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.

In addition to war crimes and crimes against humanity, Prime Minister Netanyahu and Defense Minister Gallant believed that they deliberately targeted civilians by starving them of food and using them as weapons, according to a statement by ICC chief prosecutor Karim Khan.

In addition to Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar, the group’s military chief Mohammad Diab Ibrahim al-Masri and political chief Ismail Haniyeh were also charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity, the ICC said in a statement. Charges against Hamas officials include murder, hostage-taking, war crimes, rape and other sexual abuse, as well as torture.

At the same time, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said after today’s meeting with White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan that Israel is committed to increasing its ground operations in the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah.
