To fight the Palestinian group Hamas, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu formed an emergency government on October 11, and the defense minister vowed to wipe out Hamas from the face of the earth. Netanyahu formed an emergency government with current Defense Minister Yoav Goran and former Chief of Defense Staff Benny Gantz, the leader of the opposition party.
A joint statement by Netanyahu and Benny Gantz said the emergency government would not follow irrelevant policies or laws while fighting Hamas in Gaza. Another opposition leader, Yaa Lapit, is yet to join the emergency government.
On October 7, the Hamas group in the Gaza Strip fired thousands of rockets into Israel and sent gunners to attack. Therefore, at least 1,200 people were killed in Israel, and it was the worst attack by Palestinian militants in Israel’s history.
Israel retaliated with heavy bombing of the Gaza Strip, killing 1,055 people and deploying thousands of troops to the area. Israel has formed an emergency government as it prepares for a ground offensive against Hamas.
