Somewhere along the Chinwiin River in Minking Township, Sagaing Region, a vehicle carrying more than 150 people carrying military convoys and loot sank at about 11:30 in the afternoon on September 20th, and a total of 20 bodies were found by the evening of September 21st, according to local residents. On September 19th (19th) past 11:00 a.m., the military group’s vehicle collided with a rock near Mawkataw village, Minking, and sank, according to Minking Township People’s Defense Force (PDF) officer Ko Nyo Gyi.

At about 11:30 in the afternoon, the motorcycle hit a rock above Moktao village and then sank,” said Ko Nyo Gyi, Minking PDFs official. The people riding on that motorcycle were more than 30 soldiers of the military group, NON CDM education staff who were going to university, and civilians.

Residents said that only an old lady who jumped out of the car when it sank survived, and as of midday, only 10 bodies (six men and four women) had been recovered from the water. “The army and nearby Pyu villages are searching for the bodies in seven boats. They have only found (10) bodies. They are waiting below to see if they will float away. So far, nothing has been found,” said a local.

“It was buried, so it didn’t collect, but it was standing there. There are things floating in the villages downstream,” said a soldier from the People’s Defense Forces in Kani. The group of warships went up to the towns of Monywa, Sa Lin Gyi, Yinmapin, Kani, Minking, Kalewa, Mawlaik, Phon pyin and Homalin last July, and now they are back down.
